Why did I enter these awards? At the end of the day the photography industry is heavily saturated and everyone claims to be a professional photographer without needing to prove they are actually good. There is little to recognise quality, credibility and accountability. One way to “Quality Assure” work is to keep entering in Industry Recognised Awards. This is my opinion - there are a lot of competitions out there that don’t sit well with me - where a competitor can pay for a “finalist badge”, or the award might be purely based on votes. Neither are unbiased, judged by an accredited panel or evaluated to say the business is keeping up with today’s standard, yet give the impression they are an industry award. Especially some of the “wedding awards”. So it’s quite the navigation to find awards to enter that fit my ethics and I can be proud to be a part of.
I believe in my work, constantly delivering media to a very high standard across a range of genres. Also what separates me from other photographers is the support I give beyond the lens from planning sessions and how to use the images. My business also goes one step further and each year the business donate services to WA charities, and fundraising events. This year alone the business has supported families with cancer, fundraising towards sporting grounds, and donated prizes for sporting events. I am usually humble and shy away from the spotlight, so much of what the business does behind the scenes over the years is out of the public eye except - IYKYK
Congratulations to all the contestants, finalists and winners. Whether you have won or just taken part of one of the competitions, you are all amazing and so deserving. Don’t stop entering. Continuing to strive for your best. Keep inspiring us all and keep raising that bar!!
From the SCoC website - It takes perseverance, ingenuity and courage to build a sustainable business in today's evolving landscape and these awards are a way to be recognised in the local community. It is an industry benchmark that sets you apart and lifts your business above the rest.
